We operate openly, provide clear information about fees and services, and maintain honest communication.

Professional Conduct Standards

Client Relationships & Boundaries

Respect and Dignity

Members must treat all clients with respect, honor their autonomy, and protect their dignity regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or socioeconomic status.

Professional Boundaries

Members must maintain appropriate professional boundaries and avoid dual relationships that could impair professional judgment or exploit the client relationship.

Confidentiality

Members must protect client confidentiality and privacy, disclosing information only with explicit consent or when required by law.

Informed Consent

Members must provide clear information about services, fees, expectations, and potential risks, ensuring clients can make informed decisions.

Financial Ethics & Transparency

Fair and Transparent Fees

Members must establish fair, reasonable fees and clearly communicate all costs to clients before services are rendered. Hidden fees or surprise charges are prohibited.

No Exploitation

Members must not exploit clients financially, emotionally, or spiritually. Charging excessive fees, creating dependency, or manipulating clients for personal gain is strictly prohibited.

Financial Records

Members must maintain accurate financial records and provide receipts for services rendered when requested.

Competence & Truthful Representation

Accurate Credentials

Members must accurately represent their training, initiations, lineage, and credentials. Falsifying or exaggerating qualifications is grounds for immediate revocation of membership.

Scope of Practice

Members must practice only within the scope of their training and competence. Offering services beyond one's expertise or making false claims about abilities is prohibited.

Continuous Learning

Members are encouraged to pursue ongoing education, deepen their knowledge, and stay current with developments in their tradition.

Community Responsibility

Respect for Traditions

Members must honor and respect the sacred traditions of African Traditional Religions, avoiding cultural appropriation, misrepresentation, or commercialization of sacred practices.

Professional Conduct

Members must conduct themselves professionally, avoiding behavior that brings disrepute to the profession or NATRC.

Reporting Violations

Members have a duty to report suspected ethical violations by other members to protect the integrity of the profession and the safety of the public.

Enforcement & Accountability

Complaint Process

Any individual may file an ethics complaint against a NATRC member. All complaints are reviewed by the Ethics Committee and investigated thoroughly.

Investigation

The Ethics Committee conducts fair, impartial investigations, gathering evidence and providing the accused member an opportunity to respond.

Sanctions

Violations may result in the following sanctions:

  • Written warning
  • Probation with conditions
  • Suspension of membership
  • Permanent revocation of credentials

Appeals Process

Members have the right to appeal sanctions through a formal appeals process reviewed by the Board of Directors.

By accepting membership in NATRC, I affirm my commitment to uphold these ethical standards, conduct myself with integrity, and honor the sacred traditions I represent. I understand that violations may result in disciplinary action, including revocation of my credentials.
